About

Gabriel Alonso is a Visual Artist, formed between Madrid, Berlin, and New York. In his works, through various formats such as installation, sculpture, photography or video, he investigates contemporary relationships between aesthetics, science and postnature. His latest projects explore post-romantic assemblies of the natural, activating a change of perspective regarding the relationships between archeology, geology and human culture.

In 2020 he founded the Institute of Postnatural Studies, a platform for research and creation from which to discuss new approaches to artistic practice through political ecology, post-natural aesthetics, and new ethics of creation that contribute to the definitive dissolution of the nature-culture binomial.

His work has been exhibited in different galleries and international exhibitions, such as Matadero 2019 (Madrid), John Doe Gallery 2018 (New York), IIAF2018 (New York), Poor Media Leuven 2016 (Belgium), Espacio Las Aguas 2015(Madrid) , Mila Gallery 2014 (Berlin) among others. He has been an assistant professor at the Barnard College of Columbia University (Nyc) and in the Master in Advanced Architecture of ETSAM, and has given several conferences indifferent international institutions, museums and universities. In 2020, he received Creation Grant from the Madrid City Council for his project The Mammalian Retina. In 2015, he received the FAD award for his publication Desierto, and in 2016, he was awarded one of the prestigious Graham Foundation for the Fine Arts Grants.
